Bio

Erin is a Utah-based writer, editor, and type 1 diabetes advocate who believes all great things can only be achieved with a light heart. Her son Sam, now 24, was diagnosed with diabetes at age four. Together, their walk team, “Yosemite Sam,” has raised over $40,000 for type 1 diabetes—her single best life achievement after her kids.

An Indiana native, Erin graduated from Ball State University before moving to Los Angeles, where she worked for a film production company and met her husband, Steve. They now live in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Erin is a freelance writer with experience in travel writing, content development, ghostwriting, biography writing, and blogging. Her award-winning short stories have been published in several anthologies by the League of Utah Writers.

She also works as a developmental editor, line editor, and proofreader for a variety of outlets. Her published work spans both online and print media, including Tripster.com, Parent Guide News, BDR Publishing, Synergy Magazine, KSL Television, and Salt Lake Valley Journals, where she received the Utah Society of Professional Journalists Award for Minority Issues Reporting. You can find her blog pieces with Beyond Type 1 here, and learn more about her writing at erinmcpowriting.com.

When her nose isn’t glued to a book, Erin enjoys hiking with her family in the beautiful Cottonwood Canyons near her home and traveling to unique destinations. She has deep admiration for all type 1 strong heroes and firmly believes a cure is due.
